The 20th death anniversary of former MLA Ardhendu Chaudhuri was observed here on Sunday.
The death anniversary also marks the 19th foundation day of the Ardhendu Chaudhuri Charitable Trust and the sixth anniversary of ‘Aahar.’
Various speakers fondly poured out their experience and association with the former MLA, who died in a helicopter crash, and their undying attachment to him and his works.
One of the speakers, Naba Bhattacharjee, recalled that the late Chaudhuri was one of the first MLAs to introduce a motion in the state Assembly on the recognition of the Khasi language in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution in 2004.
He suggested his speeches made in the Assembly be printed to remind his work, contribution and love for the people and Meghalaya.
His brother Manas Chaudhuri, also a former MLA, touched upon the various aspects of his life and works and how he still lives on in the hearts and minds of the many people whom he touched in some way or the other.
Stating that he has left wonderful examples for others to follow, he said that his legacy lives on through trust.
He also provided a report on the trust and said, “We are all making an effort. It was formed in April 2005, and in 19 years, we have spent nearly Rs 3 crore, which was possible because there have been generous people.”
Commissioner and Secretary BDR Tiwari applauded the trust’s selfless service to humanity and expressed his wishes for the mission’s continued success.
Meanwhile, the efforts of the trust workers were also appreciated and they were felicitated. The Ahaar beneficiaries were also gifted blankets.
