Nongpoh, Jun 16: The Ri-Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF) has lodged a formal complaint with the Deputy Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi, who is also the Chairman of the Vidyalaya Management Committee, alleging that four students from outside the district, including some from other states, have been admitted to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) Niangbari, thereby depriving deserving local students of educational opportunities.
According to the pressure group, hundreds of parents in Ri-Bhoi, particularly those from economically weaker sections, strive to secure admission for their children in JNV Niangbari due to the quality education and minimal financial burden offered by the institution. However, seats meant for local students may have been occupied by candidates who are not genuine residents of the district, the RBYF told the DC, Abhishek Saini.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, RBYF leaders stated that their inquiry revealed that two students from Assam had secured admission under the quota meant for students from Umling block and Umsning block. They further claimed that one student from Bihar was admitted under the Umling block quota on the basis of a residential certificate obtained from Tamulikuchi, Byrnihat, while most of the student’s other documents reportedly indicated Bihar as his place of residence. The federation also informed that the credentials of another student are yet to be fully verified.
It also expressed suspicion that certain individuals may have facilitated such admissions for personal gain or vested interests. The RBYF demanded that any student found to have secured admission through invalid or questionable documents be removed and the vacant seats be offered to deserving students from Ri-Bhoi.
