Shillong, Jun 16: Three suspected drug traffickers in possession of 53g of heroin were arrested by the Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of the Meghalaya Police yesterday.
Based on intelligence, police set up a checkpoint at Tikrikilla in West Garo Hills and apprehended the trio, who the police, in a press release today, described as “notorious” drug traffickers.
Five plastic soap boxes containing 53g of heroin, two motorbikes and three mobile phones were seized by police.
The suspects were identified as Sahidul Hussain (35), Saddam Hussain (35) and Rashidul Hoque (23), all of whom hail from Goalpara district in Assam.
A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Tikrikilla Police Station.
The three are suspected to be part of larger organised crime syndicate operating an inter-state drug trafficking nexus, police said. If any person has any information about the accused, their accomplices or any miscreants involved in drug trafficking, the information may be shared with Meghalaya ANTF. The identity of the informant/s will be kept secret and a suitable reward will be given to such volunteer/s.
