Shillong, Jun 16: The Directorate of Social Welfare, Meghalaya, will join the nationwide ‘Nasha Mukt Saptah’ from June 17 to 26 as part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, culminating in the observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26.

The campaign is being led by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, through the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment.

This year’s theme is _“Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan – Viksit Bharat Ki Pehchaan”_, in line with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) theme _“Break the Cycle #StopOrganisedCrime”_.

The week-long campaign aims to build sustained awareness on prevention of substance abuse through coordinated efforts with Central Ministries, States and Union Territories, District Administrations, educational institutions, spiritual organisations, NGOs and community stakeholders.

Activities planned across the country include mass pledge drives, poster and essay competitions, awareness rallies, cycle rallies, street plays, folk performances, yoga and meditation sessions, health camps, counselling sessions, community outreach programmes, youth-led interactive sessions, and social media campaigns.

Special emphasis will be laid on engaging youth, women, educational institutions and community leaders. The campaign will also promote sports, arts, music and culture as healthy alternatives to substance abuse, with a focus on stress management, peer pressure, and rehabilitation through community participation and wellness practices.

The observance will culminate with national-level programmes by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment in New Delhi and parallel events across States and UTs on June 26.

The campaign is expected to reach millions of citizens through physical and digital platforms and strengthen inter-ministerial collaboration towards a Drug-Free India.

Citizens can join the movement by taking the online pledge at: https://nmba.dosje.gov.in/content/take-a-pledge
