The Directorate of Health Services (MCH&FW) in collaboration with the Office of the District Medical & Health Officer, East Khasi Hills, under the aegis of National Health Mission (NHM), organized a Programme for Launching of Social Awareness & Action to Neutralize Pneumonia Successfully (SAANS) Campaign at Umthlong Maweitnai Village under Pomlum PHC.
The programme was attended by Dr P Manners, Jt. DHS (MCH&FW), Dr EL Kharmutee, District MCH Officer, EKH, Dr Iaineh Lyngdoh, Paediatrician Ganesh Das Govt MCH Hospital, Shillong, Dr DP Syiem, Sr. M&HO I/c Pomlum PHC, Dr. A P Blah, Ayush Physician, Pomlum PHC, District Programme Manager (NHM), IEC Consultant (NHM), Programme Officer (NHM), Programme Officer (UNICEF), Headman of Umthlong Maweitnai. The programme was also attended by parents & community members.
The main objective of the SAANS Campaign is to: create awareness and mobilize the community for pneumonia protection, prevention and treatment; early identification and management of under-five children to detect suspected pneumonia cases; create awareness about indoor and outdoor air pollution and its effects on children under 5; ensure that all eligible children receive three doses of Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV) i.e two primary doses at 6 weeks and 14 weeks and a booster dose at 9 months as per the national immunization schedule under the universal immunization programme (UIP).
The SAANS campaign will run until February 28, 2023 in Meghalaya.
