Shillong, Aug 1: A fire broke out in Zig-Zag Road, Rilbong under Kenche’s Trace Dorbar Shnong jurisdiction on Saturday afternoon, gutting around six houses.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire started at around 3:30 pm and spread rapidly as the structures were made of wood. Fire tenders rushed to the spot and brought it under control.
Eyewitnesses stated the blaze was caused by an electric short circuit. Three LPG cylinders kept in the homes also exploded during the incident.
Officials said there was no loss of life and cattle were reported safe.
Local MLA and Cabinet Minister Sanbor Shullai visited the spot to take stock of the situation.
