The Sngap Syiem College, Mawkyrwat in collaboration with Rashtriya Ushatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) Cell Mawkyrwat today organized a one day workshop on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 “Role of Stakeholders”.
Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma who attended the workshop as the chief guest said that this serves as a platform where decisions and discussion will be taken towards changing the educational scenario of the state through the implementation of the New Education Policy which would bring about the standard of education in the country.
“We live in a generation where only the fittest will survive, therefore we should be ready to adopt and face any challenges in the implementation of this policy”, he said. He appealed teachers to shoulder their responsibilities in bringing about a change in the educational scenario of the state by producing the best brains and to prepare children well ahead of technology.
Reminding teachers of their role and responsibilities in making the state an educational hub, and in reviving back the glory that was once lost, the Education Minister said, “If we stick to the same old procedure we will be in a pitiable condition and there would be no improvement without changing the educational scenario.”
He lamented that the state has the highest rate of drop outs in the country but expressed hope that with the new policy and teacher’s support the state will be able to hone the gifts and talents of students and convert their potentials and resources towards the growth of the country.
Secretary of Education, Ambrose Ch. Marak said there are challenges in implementing the National Education Policy and with such workshops the state will be able to understand the changes and the challenges.
Mawkyrwat MLA Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar hoped that there will be a transformation in the education scenario of the state through the introduction of the policy while Mawsynram MLA Himalaya M Shangpliang said the new policy is a revolution which will bring a change in the educational sector of the state.
The programme was followed by a technical session wherein Prof S. Sungoh, Professor Education Dept. NEHU, Shillong, Dr Basancy Kharbuki, Asstt Professor NERIE- NCERT, Umiam, Dr. Balaiada Dkhar, Asst. Professor NERIE-NCERT, Umiam attended as the resource persons.
