Mawkyrwat, May 27: Union Minister of State for Steel and Heavy Industries Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma visited South West Khasi Hills District and held a review meeting with district heads at the circuit house in Mawkyrwat.
The discussion focused on the progress of various central and state government schemes, such as the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), and other welfare schemes in the district.
Varma praised the district’s performance for their ongoing commitment to implementing these programs effectively, encouraging continuous dedication in overcoming challenges to development.
During his visit, the minister engaged with the local community at the Civil Hospital, where he distributed Ayushman Bharat cards to 20 beneficiaries to enhance healthcare accessibility for residents.
Varma also inspected the natural farming activities coordinated under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) at Wahsiej, taking a moment to recognize the remarkable efforts of self-help groups like the ‘Lakhpati Didis’ in promoting sustainable livelihoods.
He also interacted with children and Anganwadi workers at Mawlangwir and distributed meals to the children and reviewed the services and nutritional support being provided under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), and visited the Mawranglang viewpoint.
The minister further inaugurated and handover the house key to the owner of PMAY – G House at Mawlangwir and also visit a Footbridge and Water Tank-cum-Washing Platform at Mawpon, where he participated in a tree plantation programme.
