Shillong, May 2: The National People’s Party (NPP) organised a reception ceremony at Mawkyrwat in South West Khasi Hills district to welcome thousands of people who have joined the party.
Most of these new members belong to different political parties, the Congress, Hills State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP), United Democratic People (UDP) and Voice of the People Party (VPP) who have switched over to NPP now.
The induction held at Nativity football field, was attended by NPP State President and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, C&RD Minister Sosthenes Sohtun, MLAs Dr. Celestine Lyngdoh and Ampareen Lyngdoh, and other NPP leaders.
Tynsong said the move boosts NPP’s prospects in the 2028 Legislative Assembly elections. He urged the NPP Mawkyrwat Block President to ensure the party constitution reaches every unit in the constituency.
The Deputy CM also announced that work on widening the Weiloi-Mawkyrwat-Rangthong road under Phase-1 will begin this year to be followed by Phase-2 of the Rangthong to Ranikor road. He added that the MDA-2 government will set up a new C&RD Block in the Shiliang Um Rilang area, to fulfill the long-standing demand of Mawkyrwat residents.
