The Tyrso Valley Wildlife Protection Society, through its chairman Rojen Sten, who is also the headman of Shnat Raid Tyrso, announced the arrival of the Amur falcons in the area, particularly in Umru village, Ri-Bhoi.

The Amur falcons, migrating from Siberia to South Africa, make a temporary stopover in the village from mid-October to November before continuing their journey.

Speaking to the media, Sten expressed his excitement about this natural phenomenon, inviting the people of Meghalaya and visitors from other regions to come and witness the flocks of these remarkable birds. He mentioned that the best time to observe the falcons is between 4am and 4pm.

Sten further announced that the society has handed over the responsibility of organising the 8th Amur Falcon Festival to the Eastern Ri-Bhoi Tourism and Environment Development Forum. The festival celebrates the arrival of these birds and promotes wildlife conservation and tourism in the region.
