Shillong, Aug 21: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) today submitted memorandum to all 36 MLAs from the Khasi Hills, demanding they raise its 5-point charter when the Meghalaya Assembly’s Autumn Session begins on August 24.
KSU members from various units and circles submitted the memorandum across constituencies. The union said it will also reach out to the 24 MLAs from the Garo Hills.
“MLAs were elected by the people. It is their duty to raise issues of jobs and problems affecting the entire community. We leave it to their wisdom to do their job,” KSU assistant general secretary Pynshai Rani said.
The students’ body warned it will not back down. “We will not remain silent. We will continue to protest until the state government fully implements our demands.”
The KSU also announced a 24-hour sit-in demonstration on August 24 at 11 am at the statue of U Kiang Nangbah, opposite Shillong Civil Hospital. On August 25, similar sit-ins will be held across all seven districts of the Khasi-Jaintia Hills.
The union will however hold no protests on August 22 to avoid disrupting candidates appearing for the LDA examination conducted by the MPSC.
