Nongpoh, Aug 14: Union Christian College (UCC), Umiam Khwan in Ri Bhoi District on Friday marked 74 years of service in education and community development, while formally inaugurating its Platinum Jubilee celebrations ahead of completing 75 years next year.
The celebrations are being held under the theme, “Established by Grace, Empowered for Tomorrow: Ripples of the Living Water.”
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Umsning MLA Celestine Lyngdoh attended the event as guests in the presence of Principal Dr. R. M. Manih, faculty members, staff and students.
Established in 1952 under the North East India Christian Council (NEICC), UCC has played a significant role in providing quality education and nurturing generations of students from Meghalaya and the wider region.
Addressing the gathering, Tynsong congratulated the institution on the milestone and lauded its contribution to education. Recalling his school days, he said UCC was regarded as one of the leading institutions of the region. He assured that the state government would extend support to the college whenever required.
The launch marks the beginning of a year-long journey of reflection for the college community to honour its legacy and look ahead to continued academic excellence and service.
