A gang of four broke open an ATM machine with a gas-cutter and stole around Rs 28.13 lakh at Mawkriah in the outskirts of the city under Mawngap police station.
It is suspected that the robbery took place around 3 am on Wednesday. The police are trying to identify the culprits by collecting CCTV footage from the ATM counter.
Police suspect the involvement of an interstate gang, as the method used closely resembles recent ATM thefts reported in parts of Assam.
A case has been registered at Mawngap Police Station, and efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the culprits.
