Shillong, Aug 19: The Meghalaya Basin Management Agency (MBMA) signed an MoU with the Spices Board today to strengthen technical cooperation for sustainable spice cultivation in the state.
The MoU was signed under the ADB-financed Integrated Eco-tourism and Sustainable Agri-based Livelihood Development Project.
MBMA Executive Director Gavede Sachin Shankar and Spices Board Secretary M. S. Manivannan signed the agreement in the presence of Project Director Dr. D. Vijay Kumar.
The collaboration will focus on promoting black pepper, large cardamom and cinnamon. The Spices Board will provide technical expertise and guidance on sustainable and scientific cultivation practices.
Officials said the agreement marks an important step towards institutional cooperation and is expected to create sustainable, high-value spice-based livelihoods and agri-based economic opportunities for communities across Meghalaya.
The signing was also attended by Dharmendra Das, Director (Development), Spices Board; Dr. John Jo Varghese, Scientist, Spices Board, and officials from both MBMA and the Spices Board.
