One person was convicted in a POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) case, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police (SP) Vivek Syiem informed today.
According to Syiem, one Pynskhem Mawa was sentenced to undergo imprisonment for 10 years and to pay a fine of Rs 50,000. In default of the fine, a further imprisonment of four months for an offence punishable under Section 4 of POCSO Act will be imposed on him.
The convict has also been sentenced to 20 years rigorous imprisonment with fine of Rs 50,000 for an offence punishable under Section 6 of POCSO Act and in default he will undergo another six months imprisonment
Under Section 8 of POCSO Act, Mawa was sentenced to three years of imprisonment with fine of Rs 10,000 and in default of fine a further imprisonment of two months will be given to him.
Under Section 10 of the Act, he was sentenced to seven years imprisonment with Rs 20,000 fine and another three months in jail if he fails to pay the fine.
Under Section 506 IPC, the convict was sentenced to two years in jail with Rs 20,000 fine and in default he will have to undergo imprisonment for two months.
The judgment was passed by the Court of MK Lyngdoh, Special Judge (POCSO), East Khasi Hills, on May 29. The case was registered at Sohra police station in 2020.
