A 41-year-old man drowned at a dam near the Umdiker village in Ri-Bhoi yesterday.
He was identified as Brotin Rani, a local resident of Umdiker. His body was retrieved today.
According to reliable sources, Rani went fishing along with a friend on a boat. He later went missing in the evening and it was suspected that he had drowned.
Umdiker villagers, on learning about the incident, searched for Rani in a group but were unable to find the body.
The authorities were then called in and they were able to fish the body of the missing man out of the dam today. An autopsy was then carried out in Nongpoh Civil Hospital.
