Seven pressure groups from the Khasi Jaitnia and Garo regions have decided to revive the Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisations (CoMSO) to collectively address issues affecting the state.
The conglomeration will be led by the Hynñiewtrep Youth Council (HYC) and will include the Achik Progressive Approach (APA), Garoland State Movement Committee (GSMC), United Achik Social Economic Justice Forum (UASEJF), Jaintia Students Movement (JSM), Confederation of Ri-Bhoi People (CORP), and Jaintia National Council (JNC).
A meeting was held on Monday at the ICSSR-NERC Guest House in NEHU chaired by HYC president Roy Kupar Synrem.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Synrem stated that the revival of CoMSO would allow the groups to jointly raise concerns affecting different regions of the state such as inner line permit, MRSSA and protection of political rights of the people.
He further informed that the first meeting focused on re-establishing the organisation, while the second meeting, scheduled to be held in Tura, will see the election of office bearers.
