Temperatures in parts of Meghalaya have been much higher than normal in the last two days, with Shillong recording figures 5 degrees hotter.
According to the daily report from the Indian Meteorological Department on Sunday, the high in Shillong was 27.4 degrees Celsius (5.2 above normal) on March 29 and 26.2 degrees (4.0 above normal) on March 28.
The recorded temperature highs in Umiam breached 30 degrees on both days, with the mercury hitting 32.7 degrees (5.6 above normal) on March 29 and 30.2 (3.1 above normal) on March 28.
Temperatures in Sohra – 25.9 (4.1 above normal) on March 29 and 25.7 (3.9 above normal) on March 28 – were also higher than usual.
The minimum temperatures recorded were also above normal. In Shillong the lows reached 14.7 (2.1 above normal) on March 29 and 16.0 (3.4 above normal) on March 28, while Sohra recorded lows of 16.4 (3.1 above normal) on March 29 and 17.0 (3.7 above normal) on March 28. By contrast, Umiam’s lows were 11.7 degrees on both days, which was 0.6 degrees lower than normal.
The weather is expected to be hot and dry for much of next week.
