ICAR-KVK Ri-Bhoi organised an off-campus training programme today on the ‘Integrated Farming System’ (IFS) where 30 farmers of Thadnongiaw village in Ri-Bhoi took part.
The programme was organised by Meghna Sarmah, Subject Matter Specialist in Agronomy. Scientists Janani P and Yvonne Angel Lyngdoh of the Central Potato Research Institute in Upper Shillong were the resource persons.
They explained about the integration of different crop and livestock enterprises for improving livelihoods, food security and sustainability. The farmers were also briefed on the role of livestock in IFS, which provides organic matter for improving soil fertility and crop yield.
An interaction was then held among the scientists and farmers in order to clarify any doubts. The programme concluded with seed distribution of summer vegetables to the participants.
