The Khooid Ya Ka Wah Myntdu (KYM) has urged authorities to speed up construction of the in-situ drains to ensure that the ailing Myntdu does not deteriorate further.
Well-known elders of Jaintia Hills, KYM president Khroo L Pariat, youth leaders yesterday visited the construction areas and expressed concern over the delay in construction of the drains aimed to prevent garbage flowing into the river.
Pariat said the construction project of in-situ drains started in 2022 by the Urban Department and Jowai Municipal Board (JMB).
JMB Executive Engineer, H. Passah was also present during the visit.
The organisation further urged the municipal board to keep a check on trash spilled by garbage trucks on the road and called for support from all residents of Jowai to segregate waste and opt for carry bags instead of plastics.
