Shillong, Aug 7: The district administration of West Jaintia Hills has received an advisory from the authorities of Kopili Hydro Power Station, Umrangso regarding the possible release of water from Khandong and Umrong Dam due to the rising water levels in the reservoirs caused by continuous rainfall in their catchment areas.
Residents residing along the downstream stretches of the Kopili River are advised to remain vigilant, avoid venturing near the river during this period and keep their livestock away from the riverbanks as a precautionary measure.
The authorities have informed that the actual quantum of water released to the Kopili River, further downstream of Longku, Dima Hasao, will depend upon any release of water from Lower Kopili Hydro Electric Project.
