The Laban circle of the Khasi Students Union (KSU) has accused Longkmie Gas Agency of selling gas cylinders meant for domestic use to commercial eateries.
The pressure group also claimed that the agency only supplies 10 cylinders a year to domestic customers when 12 is the actual minimum it should be supplying.
Led by KSU circle president Reuben Najiar the students union also met and submitted a letter to the manager of the Longkmie Gas Agency today.
It was through a series of inspections of food stalls and restaurants in and around the Laban area last month that the KSU found that many food outlets were using domestic LPG cylinders instead of the more expensive commercial ones that they are required to use. Further questioning led the commercial cylinders to be traced back to Longkmie Gas Agency, the KSU said.
“The union would strongly urge that such kind of malpractices must be avoided to see that there is no shortage of supply for households,” the letter said. “Thus, the union would humbly like to urge that the agency must be able to provide a minimum of 12 LPG cylinders annually and also see to it that there is no illegal transaction of LPG cylinders.”
