The Jaiñtia Network of Positive People (JNP) today observed the International AIDS candle light Memorial Day in collaboration with the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society, Shillong at MCSWA Conference Hall Salaroh in Jowai.
Dr Pusein in-charge ART Civil Hospital Ialong talked about the significance of the day narrating the history behind the memorial service and elaborated.
She informed that the National Aids Control Organisation wants to end this epidemic by 2030 and the best way to achieve the goal is to educate people through awareness programme and to give treatment for those who already contracted the disease.
She also said that the goal of NACO is to achieve “Zero new infection, zero AIDS related deaths, zero stigma and discrimination.”
A one-minute silence was also observed and candles were lighted and a testimony by a member of the JNP.
