The ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam today observed International Women’s Day under the theme, “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow”.
Mission Director of the State Resource Center for women, Social Welfare Department, Dr CP Khonglah added the programme as the chief guest and emphasised on the flagship schemes of the government such as Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Atma Nirbhar Bharat, Mahila Shakti Kendra schems and the 181 toll free helpline for women etc.
She also acknowledged the extensive reach out by the government for upliftment of women and stressed on the need for a comprehensive safe environment, upholding the dignity of women at workplace or otherwise.
Director of the Institute Dr. V K Mishra in his remarks appreciated the role of women in society and at workplace. He remarked that a girl child born is a blessing to all. He also cited that relevant legal safeguards have been accorded to women in our country for their enhanced protection and security, the organization has also seen a significant increase in the number of women Scientists and other staff in recent times.
The Women cell of ICAR also acknowledged the abundant contributions made by women in agriculture and felicitated few women farmers of Ri-Bhoi District.
Online dancing, acting, singing talent hunt competition were organised and prizes were distributed on the occasion.
