An awareness programme on Muga was organised for farmers by the Central Silk Board, MESSO P-3 Unit, Rompara at the unit farmer yesterday which was attended by 80 farmers.
Scientist-B and in charge of the unit, Dr. Vikram Kumar explained about the objective of the holding the programme and spoke about the importance of sericulture for the social and economic uplift of the farmers. He informed about the different government schemes that will benefit Muga farmers in the future. He also explained about the advantage of intercropping of different pulses and vegetables with Som plantation.
Dr. K. Indirakumar, Scientist-B and OIC, MESSO, P-4 Unit, Tura explained to the farmers about the quality seed production procedure, care and sanitation measure to be taken during the grainage operation and also explained the advantage of Muga rearing over the traditional crops.
North Garo Hills District Sericulture Officer, S. G. Momin explained about the different diseases of Muga and symptoms to identify them and also the importance of disinfection for the controlling of diseases.
The programme was attended by Lakme Marak, a Seri entrepreneur as the chief guest.
