Shillong, Apr 27: A swift and coordinated operation conducted by the North Garo Hills police successfully foiled an alleged abduction attempt on April 25, officials said today.
According to Superintendent of Police, credible information was received around 3 pm about the abduction of a local businessman in the Bolsong area.
Acting immediately on the information, a police team set up a Naka (checkpoint) at Mansinggre. By about 3:30 pm, the suspected vehicle, a silver Ertiga, was intercepted by the police. Inside the vehicle, the abducted businessman was discovered and rescued without delay, ensuring his safety.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that the suspects had intercepted the victim along the Bolsong-Agia road, forcibly stopping him, taking his cash, and snatching his motorcycle key and mobile phone.
The police have since identified the accused individuals and initiated legal proceedings under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). One of the accused allegedly claimed an association with an NGO known as the United Garo People’s Forum.
The North Garo Hills Police has reiterated their firm resolve against all forms of criminal activities, including offences allegedly committed under the guise of organisations or associations.
The public has also been urged to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious or unlawful activities to the nearest police station or control room.
