Shillong, Sep 21: Rabindranath Tagore Club, Laban celebrated the belated birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore along with prize distribution of 16th Inter Shillong Cultural Event 2026 at U Soso Tham Auditorium here on Sunday.
The event was held in collaboration with Laban Bengalee Boys’ Higher Secondary School.
Art & Culture Minister and MLA Sanbor Shullai and Padmashree Silbi Passah attended the programme as guests.
Club President Pankaj Deb briefed about the club’s journey. He said the RTC was established in 2005 inspired by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore to promote art and culture among youth.
He recalled that Shullai, then MDC of Laban, encouraged them to name and register the organisation after visiting their Saraswati Puja in 2005, becoming one of the main founders and guiding force.
Inter Shillong Cultural Event started in 2008 to provide a platform for school students in competitions including Rabindra Sangeet, Folk Song, Tagore dance, Folk dance, Art, Essay, Quiz, Recitation, Fun Games and Hindi dance.
This year over 1,000 students participated and 511 prizes were distributed. The overall champion trophy was bagged by Shreya Das.
