Shillong, Jul 20: The body of an unidentified newborn baby girl was recovered from the Rongdal River near Rangsa village under Kharkutta Police Station in North Garo Hills on Tuesday.
According to the Superintendent of Police, North Garo Hills, villagers spotted the body floating in the river around 9 A.M. and informed Kharkutta Police Station. Police personnel later recovered the body.
The body was sent to the District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO), North Garo Hills for post-mortem examination. Following the procedure, it has been preserved at the mortuary of Mendipathar Community Health Centre (CHC) for identification.
Police said despite efforts, the identity of the newborn and her biological parents remain unknown.
A case has been registered at the Women Police Station, North Garo Hills under Sections 91 and 94 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
