Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma today inaugurated the newly constructed building of the State’s first university, the Captain Williamson Sangma State University at Balalgre village in South West Garo Hills district.
Colleges in Meghalaya have been affiliated to NEHU all these years and this will give them the opportunity to affiliate to the State’s own full-fledged university, the Chief Minister said.
He informed that process is on to get an official ordinance for the university to be notified by the Governor.
The Chief Minister assured that the government will work towards creating a proper blueprint and a master plan to ensure that the university has all the necessary infrastructure required. He also informed that work for construction of the boundary wall and an approach road to university will soon commence.
Chief Adviser to the Chief Minister, Thomas A. Sangma, Commissioner & Secretary Education, B.D.R. Tiwari, Secretary, Education, Ambrose Ch. Marak, Vice-Chancellor RD Shira, Tura Municipal Board Chairman, JD Sangma, Chairman KVIB, Subir Marak, Registrar, CWSSU, heads of various educational institutions and academicians, officials of South West Garo Hills district administration, nokmas and residents of the area were also present on the occasion.
