The Jaiñtia Student’s Movement (JSM) today staged a protest outside the Jaiñtia Eastern College in Khliehriat during the visit of Education Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui to push through their demand for setting up of a government college for the district.
JSM, Eastern Region leader Wellson Siangshai said that the demand for a government college was made since 2016 as the Kiang Nangbah Government College located in Jowai caters to all students of the entire Jaiñtia Hills region, compelling to accommodate a large number of students beyond its actual capacity including the numbers of seats.
Speaking to reporters, Rymbui said that the State government has not decided on setting up of a government college in East Jaiñtia Hills but it will set up one each for Patharkhmah and Rongjeng. He said at present the government focuses and aids governing body of institutions.
