Shillong, Aug 6: The Hynñiewtrep Youths’ Council (HYC), East Jaintia Hills District met Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar and submitted a memorandum demanding the urgent establishment of a dedicated police outpost at Bataw area.
The delegation pointed out that Bataw and surrounding villages including Lakadong, Lama and Borkhat currently fall under the jurisdiction of the Lad Rymbai police outpost under Khliehriat police station. They said the existing arrangement has become inadequate given the vast geographical spread and the growing population in the region.
HYC highlighted that the distance between Lad Rymbai police outpost and Bataw leads to delays in police response during emergencies, law and order issues and accidents. The council also noted that the limited personnel at Lad Rymbai are spread too thin across a large area, affecting efficient policing in remote border villages.
The group further stressed that a dedicated outpost at Bataw is important for monitoring key transit routes, particularly with the Shillong-Silchar Speed Corridor passing through these communities.
Responding to the demands, Dhar assured that the state government will examine the matter on priority and take necessary steps to sanction the required infrastructure and personnel. He said the move would help strengthen law and order, boost public confidence and ensure overall safety in the region.
