Khliehriat, Jul 20: A family from Umlaper village, East Jaintia Hills District, is struggling to cope with the medical expenses of their 7-year-old son, Riskhembha Khonglah, who has been ill since birth. The child cannot walk or speak.
Members of the Hynñiewtrep Youths’ Council (HYC), Narpuh circle visited the family on Monday. Former circle vice president Kitdorlang Mukhim appealed to the District Medical and Health Office, Child Protection, and Social Welfare departments in the district to help the child access specialised medical care.
The parents, Poila Pdang and Rolis Khonglah, said they have spent years seeking treatment across the state with no improvement, and are now facing severe financial hardship. “We have taken him for treatment wherever people told us to go, but till today he has not recovered,” Pdang said.
The family has appealed to the public for financial help.
