Shillong, Aug 10: The Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRCSRE), Shillong, in collaboration with Voice of Specially Abled People (VOSAP), on Monday distributed Smart Glasses to 15 beneficiaries with visual impairment at Lok Bhavan.
The initiative aims to promote independence, accessibility and inclusion for persons with visual impairment through assistive technology.
The smart glasses are intended to help beneficiaries perform daily activities with greater confidence and independence. Officials said the distribution marks a step toward using technology to improve accessibility and quality of life for persons with visual impairment in Meghalaya.
Governor Chandrashekhar H Vijayashankar lauded CRCSRE and VOSAP for the initiative and acknowledged the centre’s ongoing work in rehabilitation and assistive technology. He urged stakeholders to continue efforts for inclusion, dignity and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities across the state.
Chief Secretary Harish Chandra Chaudhary stressed the role of collaboration and technology in improving quality of life for persons with disabilities.
VOSAP Founder Pranav Desai joined online and spoke on the importance of assistive devices for empowerment. Adviser Dr. Uttam Ojha was also present.
Other present included CRCSRE Director Dr. Ram Shakal Sahani, State Commissioner for PwDs L. Kynjing, and Deputy Commissioner for PwDs Bridget Warshong, staff, parents and beneficiaries.
