In a step towards promoting digital inclusion in education, 200 computers were distributed to 14 schools in West Jaintia Hills under the first phase of the Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kshetra Kalyan Yojana (PMKKKY), a central government development scheme for mining-affected areas.
Today’s programme was organised by the WJH Deputy Commissioner in the presence of Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla. Funded by the District Mineral Foundation, secondary and higher secondary schools in the district were given the computers.
Shylla emphasised the importance of digital literacy in today’s world and expressed confidence that the initiative will enhance the quality of education and prepare the students to thrive in a technology-driven future.
He further encouraged the teachers to share any challenges they face, particularly regarding basic infrastructure and assured them of continued support.
The DC, Abhinav Kumar Singh, said that, as part of the broader initiative, a certification course provided by Microsoft will be rolled out in the second phase, where one teacher from each school will be trained. One of the broader aims is to expand access to computers and increase enrollment in computer science, in which the district has a low number of students at present.
