Shillong, Jun 14: The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) presented the first Prof Barrister Pakem Academic Awards in Jowai yesterday.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by the JSU’s assistant secretary, followed by a presentation on the life and contributions of the late Pakem, highlighting his immense role in the educational, political and intellectual landscape of Meghalaya.
Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui attended along with former Pro Vice-Chancellor of NEHU Henry Lamin; Jowai Central MDC Andrew Shullai; Pakem’s daughter Dr Didakamiwan Khonglah; along with distinguished guests, parents, award recipients and members of the public.
Addressing the gathering, Rymbui congratulated the JSU for instituting the award in honour of Pakem, one of Meghalaya’s most distinguished academicians, scholars and visionaries. He stated that the award serves as a fitting tribute to a man whose contributions to education, literature and society continue to inspire generations of students across the state.
