Concerned over the number of accidents that occurred in Jaidohkroh along the NH 44 E under West Khasi Hills district, the West Khasi Students Union (WKSU), Nongstoiñ circle today put up a road warning signboard in the area.
It may be mentioned that a number of accidents have occurred in the area. While a number of trucks laden with goods have overturned the worst was in 2017 when 16 people were killed and 62 injured.
Earlier, this month the WKSU also met Chief Engineer of the National Highway Shillong Division and appraised him on the number of accidents in the area. They also urged him to put up road signs and rubber speed humps to warn drivers of the road.
While no assurance was given by authorities on the matter, the students’ body has urged commuters and drivers to be vigilant.
