With pressure on the government to crack down on illegal coal mining at a high point, the East Jaiñtia Hills police, accompanied by magistrates, detained three trucks today on suspicion of transporting coal illegally.
In a press release from Assistant Inspector General of Police GK Iangrai, it was informed that several raids were conducted today under Umpleng and Sakhain villages. The three trucks and mining equipment were seized by the authorities and a criminal case has been filed in Khliehriat.
No mention of any arrests was made in the release.
