Shillong, Aug 5: Leaders of the Synjuk Ki Nongsynshar Shnong Nongmynsaw Syiemship on Wednesday urged the West Khasi Hills district administration to include traditional village authorities in the state government’s proposed border settlement process with Assam.
A delegation led by the Synjuk met Deputy Commissioner Hema Nayak and submitted a memorandum seeking representation for Nongsynshar Shnong from border areas in the newly constituted regional committee for West Khasi Hills.
The leaders said village heads have firsthand knowledge of ground conditions and boundary issues, and their inclusion would make the exercise more practical. They also requested the new committee to follow the recommendations and demarcations made by the previous regional committee to ensure the process remains fair, transparent and objective.
