Shillong, Aug 29: The Cook-cum-Helpers (CCH) Unit of Gasuapara today decided to join the indefinite strike called by PM POSHAN Union, Meghalaya for honorarium hike.
The strike will begin September 1 until Centre concedes demands, the workers said.
Members said the honorarium is still Rs 2,000 per month despite rising prices, with no regularisation, making survival difficult.
They cited Rs 21,000 in Puducherry, Rs 12,000 in Tamil Nadu and Rs 9,000 in Kerala and urged the Centre and State governments to ensure dignified pay, saying Meghalaya must back its own agenda that “education is first priority.”
The Union of Cook-cum-Helpers, Meghalaya said representations since 2019 to PM, Education and Finance Ministers yielded no hike, calling it 3-year neglect of NE workers.
