On the occasion of World Blood Donors Day yesterday and under the theme ‘Give Blood, Give Hope: Together We save lives’, the Jowai Civil Hospital Blood Bank, Panaliar honoured individuals who have contributed consistently and selflessly to saving lives through blood donation.
Additional Superintendent of Police Ishan Gupta expressed his heartfelt appreciation to all voluntary blood donors. He emphasised the vital role the voluntary donors play in sustaining the healthcare system, describing them as the driving force behind the ever growing movement of voluntary blood donation.
He referred to the aeroplane crash in Gujarat a few days ago where around 100 were injured on the ground, which put immense pressure on the health service, particularly the medical and emergency response teams.
In a moment of collective empathy, he invited everyone present to observe a short silence to pray for those who lost their lives and for the strength for their families and wishes for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Gupta also shared a personal anecdote from his youth, saying, “I was around 15-16 years of age when my sister was diagnosed with cancer,” he recalled. Her treatment required a large amount of blood and the family found themselves struggling to keep up with the urgent need, the Addl SP added. “This experience made it clear to me how essential blood donation is and just how vital the work of blood banks is in saving lives.”
