Shillong, Sep 20: As many as 134 girl students of Jowai Presbyterian Higher Secondary School completed a five-day self-defence training aimed at boosting safety and self-confidence among girls.
The training, organised by the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Social Welfare Department, West Jaintia Hills in collaboration with Happy Red Rooster, Shillong, was held from September 14 to 19 under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) programme.
The concluding day featured a recap and demonstration of techniques learned during the week, along with experience sharing by the students. Certificates were distributed to all 134 participants.
Teacher of the school, A Lamare, thanked the department for the initiative, stressing that self-defence training helps girls stay prepared and confident in unsafe situations.
Founder of Happy Red Rooster MMA, Isaiah Kharmawphlang, who led the training, encouraged the students to continue practising and to develop a confident and disciplined mindset, staying alert and composed when faced with challenges.
