East Jaiñtia Hills police arrested a man and recovered heroin valued at Rs 5.5 crore today.
The accused has been identified as Lalbiakdik Vaiphei (39), a resident of Madanriting, East Khasi Hills Shillong.
Police said the Anti Narcotic Task Force team, led by the Additional SP along with officers and personnel of Lumshnong Police Station, detained a Tata Sumo traveling from Silchar, Assam.
During the inspection, 58 soap boxes containing heroin weighing around 609 grams were recovered.
The Tata Sumo and one mobile phone have also been seized.
A case under the NDPS has been registered and investigation is on.
