Shillong, Sep 2: Sankardev College on Tuesday celebrated its 64th Foundation Day cum Graduation Day.
Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui was the chief guest. Officials including MSPCB Chief Environmental Engineer Wanshan Kharkrang, MSSAT Director Jonathan Pyngrope, Governing Body President Prof P Nongkynrih and Principal Dr Eureka FP Lyngdoh were present.
Rymbui said around 64,000 people enter the workforce every year in the state, making it impossible to provide government jobs to all, and stressed on skill upgradation in view of technology-driven employment. He said the MDA government under Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has created opportunities that youth should tap as per their skills and passion.
He also released a book on physico-chemical properties of soil from Shillong agglomeration and the college magazine Academia, and felicitated faculty members for excellence in research.
Altogether 111 UG and PG students were presented citations, while 310 students completed internships with 20 organisations.
