One person was arrested and two others managed to escape during an operation conducted by Ri Bhoi police and the Anti Narcotic Task Force at Lumdiengngan along the National Highway 44 today.
Acting on source information about drug transportation, police had intercepted two pick up vehicles (TR 05/F-1909 and TR 04/D 1920) at around 3: 05 am and seized 45 packets of marijuana weighing 236.89 kg.
Police said while the team was checking the illegal consignment, the drivers sped away towards different directions, one to Bhoirymbong and another towards Umeit village.
After a pursuit, the driver of the vehicle TR 04/D 1920, identified as Supan Chakma (25) of Nalkata, West Tripura was arrested while the driver and helper the prick up TR 05/F-1909 managed to escape under the cover of darkness into a nearby jungle, police said.
A case under the NDPS Act has been registered at Umiam police station and investigation is on.
