A webinar on ‘Agrobiodiversity and Ecosystem Services’ was jointly organised by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) today.
The webinar aimed at boosting the understanding of the scope of agrobiodiversity and ecosystem services as well as to highlight the need and rationale for conservation of agrobiodiversity as a means to ensure food security and address the adverse effects of climate change.
The webinar was a platform to share learnings drawn from field-based activities undertaken in Mizoram, Nagaland and Meghalaya, which is a part of the project ‘Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services in Agrarian Landscapes’, a global project under the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU).
Key inputs were provided by Dipak K Chetri, a renowned development professional and Kenneth M Pala, senior advisor with GIZ.
The webinar saw the participation of over 90 students from MLCU.
The webinar entailed discussions about the importance of agrobiodiversity and how students can take forward and work with communities to pitch these important concepts and its implications to health, nutrition, food security, environment and community development.
