Shillong, Jul 24: Mawryngkneng MLA Heavingstone Kharpran on Friday proposed the state government to consider a loan waiver to ease the burden of farmers.
Kharpran met Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Timothy D Shira on Friday to discuss the sharp fall in prices of agricultural produce.
He suggested that the government could consider an additional Rs 4,000 to farmers over and above the Rs 6,000 given annually under the centre’s PM-KISAN scheme. He also urged the state to formulate a comprehensive Agriculture Policy to safeguard farmers’ interests and address the challenges they face.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Kharpran said the minister heard the grievances and assured that the issues would be taken up with the Chief Minister.
