Shillong, Jul 24: Shillong Traffic Police (STP) will crack down on haphazard parking with a special drive called ‘Operation Free Flow’, citing rising traffic congestion and blocked carriageways in the city.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said a dedicated Shillong Traffic Enforcement Team (STET) has been formed to carry out intensive enforcement against vehicles parked in ‘No Parking’ zones or in ways that obstruct traffic flow.
He said the drive will be conducted strictly and impartially, except in genuine emergencies or medical cases.
“The objective is not just enforcement, but to promote responsible parking, improve traffic discipline and ensure safer roads,” Syiem said.
STP has urged citizens to cooperate by following parking rules to help reduce congestion and ensure smooth traffic movement.
