Shillong, Jul 23: The Hajong Students Youth Voice (HSYV) – Federation Council has expressed concern that over a month after the deaths of two young members of the community their families are still awaiting the post-mortem report.
Simanta Hajong (21) and Prinomi Hajong (22) were found dead under suspicious circumstances inside a roadside shop at Lumsohphoh, Nongthymmai on June 14. Authorities indicated a possible case of suicide by hanging, but this explanation has been disputed by the victims’ families and local groups.
In a statement on Thursday, the HSYV said the delay in getting the post-mortem report has left the bereaved families in uncertainty and with countless unanswered questions.
“For the parents, brothers, sisters, relatives, and loved ones, every sunrise brings the same pain and the same hope that today may finally bring clarity,” the student organisation said.
HSYV stated that the families are not seeking sympathy alone but answers that can help them understand what happened and begin healing.
The student organisation has urged that the remaining procedures be completed at the earliest so the families can receive the report and the investigation can proceed with complete fairness and dignity.
“Truth, transparency, and justice strengthen public confidence,” HSYV said, adding that it will continue to stand peacefully with the bereaved families.
“One month has passed, but the pain has not. One month has passed, but the questions remain. One month has passed, and two families are still waiting,” the statement said.
