Meghalaya recorded 408 new cases of Covid-19 today, 977 recoveries and 14 fatalities, ending the month in an improved condition though the fight is still far from over.
This was the lowest single-day increase in new cases since May 12 and the highest-ever number of recoveries. Even the number of fatalities, while still high, was lower today than this point last week.
With more recoveries than new infections, the recovery rate went up to 78.96 percent. The rolling average of new infections (on a seven-day basis) also improved for the sixth day running; it now stands at 729.43, a fall of 57.57 compared to yesterday.
Nine fatalities were added to East Khasi Hills’ figures today, with two in Ri-Bhoi and one each in South West Garo Hills, West Jaintia Hills and South West Khasi Hills.
East Khasi Hills accounted for 272 of today’s reported infections, including seven police personnel, 10 returnees, two armed forces/paramilitaries, 27 in Golf Links, 12 in Laitumkhrah, 37 in Mawlai, 18 in Nongmynsong, 14 in Nongthymmai, 11 in Pynthor and 134 in various other neighbourhood clusters and categories.
Ri-Bhoi reported 48 new cases (including 23 in North Eastern Police Academy), West Jaintia Hills 31 (five in Nongtalang, five in Ummulong), West Garo Hills 23 (three armed forces/paramilitaries, one health worker, one police), East Jaintia Hills 13 (two factory workers, two returnees), North Garo Hills nine (six in Chibagok), West Khasi Hills four (two in Steplangur), South West Garo Hills three (one in Garobadha), East Garo Hills two (both in Rongjeng), South Garo Hills two and South West Khasi Hills one.
There were also 977 recoveries today – 519 in East Khasi Hills, 278 in Ri-Bhoi, 55 in West Garo Hills, 31 in North Garo Hills, 28 in East Jaintia Hills, 23 in South West Garo Hills, 13 in South West Khasi Hills, 11 in West Khasi Hills, 10 in East Garo Hills and nine in South Garo Hills.
There are now 6,913 active Covid-19 cases in the state. East Khasi Hills alone accounts for 3,183 active cases, Ri-Bhoi 1,010, West Garo Hills 639, West Jaintia Hills 563, South West Garo Hills 397, South West Khasi Hills 290, East Jaintia Hills 231, West Khasi Hills 171, North Garo Hills 168, East Garo Hills 140 and South Garo Hills 121.
In all, Meghalaya has had 35,598 Covid-19 cases, of which 6,913 are active, 28,107 have recovered and 578 have died from the virus. The recovery rate has increased to 78.96 percent. The fatality rate has increased to 1.62 percent. The seven-day rolling average for new cases now stands at 729.43.
