A man was found murdered in Ïew Smit and buried on November 8 without the knowledge of the State Police.
Confirming the incident, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police (City), Vivek Syiem said that no FIR was lodged by the family but the police are enquiring into the crime.
Sources said that the victim of the murder was a man of the Warshong clan. The police were not informed because the family allegedly did not want to inform the police but hurriedly buried the body, sources added.
If this is not another glaring sign of the prevailing lawlessness in the state, then nothing is, said a source.
Every crime has to be reported to the police and the Rangbah Shnongs are under compulsion of the law to report crimes, particularly murder and rape and all those who hide the fact of murder are accomplices in commuting the heinous crime of murder, the law says.
